On Friday, just more than a week before Super Bowl XLVII, the trophy the New York Giants and New England Patriots will play for was unveiled in Indianapolis.
Football fans and Super Bowl champion players alike crowded inside a Tiffany and Company store in Indianapolis to watch this year's Vince Lombardi trophy unveiled. The seven-pound, sterling silver trophy is topped by a regulation-size football – a design, Tiffany Business Sales Vice President Tom O'Rourke says, which has remained the same since just before the legendary Packers coach took his team to a win in Super Bowl I.
"Tiffany has made the trophy since the very beginning, in 1967," O'Rourke says. "And it all started when Tiffany Vice President Oscar Riedener sketched the original design on a cocktail napkin with then-commissioner Pete Rozelle."
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Gary Brackett, a champion himself five years ago, addressed the crowd before taking the trophy to the NFL Experience in downtown Indianapolis, where it will remain until the day before the game.
