Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller on Wednesday called on Hoosiers to help oppose a bill in Congress he says will open the door to a wave of telemarketing calls in the state.
Zoeller will testify in Washington on Friday before a House subcommittee opposing legislation that would allow robo-calls to cell phones. Indiana's No-Call law, which is much stricter than its federal counterpart, currently prohibits robo-calls to all phones on the No-Call list. But Zoeller says the proposed change in federal law would limit the state's ability to enforce its stricter laws.
"The measure proposed in Congress constitutes what I consider a federal assault on Americans' privacy," he says.
Proponents of the legislation say opening up businesses' ability to contact a wider pool of consumers via their cell phones will help stimulate the economy. Zoeller is asking Hoosiers to contact their Congressmen and voice their opposition to the measure.
