The president of the Indiana Retail Council is simulatenously attacking a new smartphone app from Amazon.com and using it to promote a push for the state to collect online sales taxes.
Amazon‘s new "Price Check" app allows customers to scan a price of an item, send it to Amazon and the company will beat the price by $5.
Indiana Retail Council President Grant Monahan says the new app allows smarthphone users to use retails stores as a showroom and then to buy from Amazon online. He says it is an unfair shot at brick and mortar retailers who are required to charge sales tax, unlike Amazon.
Monahan says the best fix would be for Congress to require the collection on sales taxes from all online retailers, but says in the meantime, the Indiana General Assembly can help by defining what's called "nexus", or the presence a retailer has in the state.
