The three students that were detained in Cairo, Egypt after being accused of throwing Molotov cocktails during protests in Tahrir Square are set to be questioned again today.
The students, including IU student Luke Gates, were questioned around midnight in Egypt yesterday, and a U.S. embassy lawyer was allowed to sit in on the questioning. He told officials from the American University in Cairo that the students, including one from Indiana University, are being well treated and are in good health.
American University in Cairo spokesperson Morgan Roth says the Embassy is taking the lead with the students and their families as the case moves forward.
"The embassy is infinitely well equipped to take the lead and to represent the boys best interest, so we are happy to step back and let the Embassy officials do their job."
Roth says one of the students Derrik Sweeney, a student at Georgetown University, was allowed to speak to his parents briefly using the U.S. Consul General's cell phone.
