Jackson Family Suing Martinsville School District

The family of a teen injured in a shooting at a Martinsville school is suing the school district. Rebecca Jackson filed the suit for unspecified damages to compensate the family.

"Generally speaking it‘s compensatory damages," said Tom Blessing, the families attorney. "Medical bills, pain and suffering, emotional distress, typical things you here about in these cases."

Blessing said a big part of the lawsuit addresses the entrances at the school.

"It should have been locked during the day when kids are in school, and secondly this particular individual was not supposed to be there when this incident happened," he said.

Blessing said they currently have no plans to name other defendants. Martinsville School District Attorney Tom Wheeler did not return a call for comment.
