The "Six-to-Six" program will include bringing students in front of Cass County Circuit Judge Leo Burns as part of a disciplinary program running from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
"Our plan in that court appearance is once I determine, based on the facts that are presented by the school, whether the student should be ordered into the six-to-six program, the second portion of the hearing will be a lecture, it might be kind of a strong –word discussion," Burns said.
Logansport Superintendent Michele Starkey said the school corporation partnered with the county when it became clear a more effective means of discipline was needed.
"Basically we are looking for something to be more effective," Starkey said. "Our out-of-school suspension program wasn't as effective as we thought it could be, because really, we want to try to get to the heart of the problem or have students understand the reason that they're there or having problems."
The program is expected to start as soon as the contract is signed.
