After four nights of hearing from every county department, the council has been able to reduce the county wide budget to around $29.5 million, roughly on par with last year's budget.
Councilman Sam Allison said the county will have to see how much money it receives in property taxes from the state, and how much money the county will carry over from this fiscal year.
"We've distributed a certain amount to the departments of Monroe County government," Allison said. "And historically they've spent 96 to 97 percent of that."
According to Allison, that variable figure of unspent cash could mean more than $1 million in additional revenue for the county. The council is set to vote on the 2012 budget next Tuesday.
