The number of Hoosiers getting tested for COVID-19 has begun trending downward over the past month, but other COVID-19 statistics continue to rise up including the statewide positive test rate.
Tuesday, the Indiana State Department of Heath reported 8,019 new tests following Monday’s spike in hospitalizations. More than 760 Hoosiers are in the hospital for coronavirus-related illness which is the most since mid-June.
After a dip in weekend deaths, Indiana confirmed 662 new positive cases and 13 new deaths bringing the total number of cases to 52,685 and deaths to 2,582 – nearly half which have occurred in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
West Lafayette joined Indianapolis and other cities in mandating face coverings. Evansville will follow with a requirement scheduled to take effect Wednesday. Gov. Eric Holcomb has declined a state mandate, and Bloomington continues to consider the option.
