Former Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) is officially leaving his Statehouse seat at the end of this month.
Bosma’s departure has been in the works for months since he announced the 2020 session would be his last.
Bosma is the longest-serving Speaker in Indiana history, with 12 years leading the House of Representatives. He announced last November that 2020 would be his final session and put together a plan for his departure.
It started with tapping Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers) to become the new House Speaker. Huston shadowed Bosma for much of the year before officially taking the reins in the last few days of the session.
Now, Bosma will leave his seat July 31, after 34 years in the General Assembly.
A private Republican caucus will choose a replacement to serve out the last few months of his term. It will likely be attorney Chris Jeter, who won the GOP primary for Bosma’s seat last month.
