The Monroe County Community School Corporation has now published specific plans for how each school will operate during the school year.
Though the state has published guidelines for schools, much of the planning has been left to local health departments and school districts, according to Jennifer Smith-Margraf, Indiana State Teachers Association vice president.
She says the ISTA wants state leadership to issue specific metrics for when schools would move entirely online, should a COVID-19 outbreak occur.
“The local health departments, they’re set up to help us, but they’re not set up to make those kinds of big determinations. It really is something that needs to come from state leadership,” Smith-Margraf said.
She said ISTA spoke with state leadership earlier this week, and they’re hopeful that additional guidelines will follow.
Margraf says having state-created metrics will help people feel safer about schools restarting, because they’ll understand that clear plans are in place in case of an outbreak.
