The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 743 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 20 new deaths. These numbers bring the state totals to 57,916 total cases and 2,654 total deaths. Nine percent of the 644,805 Hoosiers tested have tested positive.
Despite the recent increase in positive tests and hospitalizations, the ISDH reports only 11.5% of ICU beds and 2.8% of ventilators are being used for COVID-19-related illnesses.
Monroe County reported six additional positive cases totaling 490 and maintained its death count of 28 for the 26 th consecutive day. Testing sites in Monroe County have tested 11,752 residents with a 4.1% positive testing rate.
In preparation for students returning to Bloomington, Mayor John Hamilton has moved up new regulationsfor within city limits. Beginning at noon on Thursday, July 23, the city will limit capacity of public and private events and prohibit bar service. The Monroe County Health Order issued last week set a later date for those new rules to go into effect.
The mayor’s order comes just days after the sixth City of Bloomington employee tested positive for COVID-19.
