Indiana has broken its previous one-day record of positive COVID-19 cases, according to the State Department of Health. Positive case counts spiked Thursday by 191 to 954. The previous one-day record of positive cases was 946 on April 26.
The 25% increase came one day after Gov. Eric Holcomb announced a statewide mask mandate beginning Monday; that brings the state total to 59,602 positive cases.
The ISDH reported an additional 17 deaths bringing the state death total to 2,683. Data indicates 666,282 tests have been administered with an 8.9% positive rate.
In Monroe County, 34 more residents tested positive bringing the county total to 530, while the death total remained the same at 29. That's the largest recorded increase of positive cases in Monroe County since testing became available to residents. The county has conducted 12,379 tests.
The Bloomington City Council endorsed Monroe County’s recent health order, and as students return to school, mask mandates will apply to almost all students and all staff.
