The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 6,470 newly tested individuals – 64% fewer than reported the day prior. This follows weekly trends of lower COVID-19 numbers reported on Mondays.
The ISDH confirmed 582 new positive cases and five new deaths bringing statewide totals to 68,433 cases and 2,780 deaths. Additionally, the state reported 775,482 Hoosiers have been tested with an 8.8% positivity rate
Monroe County documented on Monday two new positive cases of COVID-19 and zero deaths. The positive case count rose to 686, and the death count remained 30. In Monroe County, 15,480 residents have been tested for COVID-19. The county’s positivity rate is 4.4%, half that of the state.
Throughout July, Indiana reported more tests and more positive cases but fewer deaths than months prior. July saw 252,109 Hoosiers tested for COVID-19 — nearly 80,000 more than in May. Of those tested, 21,154 tested positive in July, which tops May’s positive total by more than 5,000. However, in May, 952 Hoosiers died from COVID-19. In July, 273 died. This corresponds with doctors’ statements that after six months they have a better understanding of treating the virus.
