COVID-19-related deaths in Indiana topped 2,800 and positive tests approached 70,000 according to data released Wednesday.
The Indiana State Department of Health also reported fewer new tests than previous Wednesdays. Early July data indicated a decrease in testing that August data mirrors. On Wednesday, the ISDH reported 7,255 new tests: its lowest midweek number since July 1.
The new tests bring state totals to 792,225 Hoosiers tested with an 8.8% positivity rate.
The ISDH reported 740 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 12 new deaths increasing statewide totals to 69,975 positive cases and 2,805 deaths.
Monroe County numbers correspond with fewer statewide tests. Twice in the past week, Monroe County tested fewer than 100 residents despite officials stating county sites have exceeded expectations. The county reports 15,965 residents have been tested with a positivity rate of 4.4%.
On Wednesday, Monroe County positive cases rose by four to 699. The death count remained the same at 30.
