IU officials spent the past few weeks retrofitting classrooms and buildings to make campus safer for students and staff when classes begin later this month.
Classrooms now have desks six feet apart. Plexiglas barriers are installed in areas of face-to-face contact. Hand sanitizing stations are also being added around campus.
An estimated 20,000 reusable face masks have been sent to IU students and staff.
“We will have dispensers to the entrances to most if our buildings in case you have forgotten your mask you can pick up a disposable one,” said Kirk White, the head of IU’s COVID-19 task force.
Earlier this summer, IU made it mandatory that all students, staff and faculty wear masks on campus and socially distance whenever possible.
