The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday reported 673 new positive cases of COVID-19 all confirmed on Sunday, Aug. 9 and three additional deaths that occurred between Aug. 7 and Aug. 9. These new numbers increase state totals to 74,992 positive cases and 2,838 deaths.
The ISDH also reported 11,149 newly tested individuals with specimens collected over a more than three-month long period beginning in May. Since February, Indiana has tested 852,111 individuals and administered 1,076,630 tests total with a 7.5% seven-day positivity rate.
Positive cases reported on Mondays tend to be lower than those reported on days prior due to weekend lulls. Testing dips during the weekends according to ISDH graphs. Most Sundays, fewer than 3,000 tests are administered statewide.

In Monroe County, the positive case count rose by three to 759 confirmed cases. Deaths remained the same at 30 for the 13 th consecutive day. According to the ISDH, 17,432 Monroe County residents have been tested with a 3% seven-day positivity rate.
As of Monday, the ISDH reported 921 Hoosiers were hospitalized because of COVID-19. While that’s down from Wednesday’s recent peak of 1009, its comparable to the 920 hospitalized in early June.
