The Indiana State Department of Health’s Monday updates contain data collected over the weekend and typically provide lower numbers; however, the state’s seven-day positivity rate climbed to 8.1% on Monday. Two months ago, on June 17, the positive rate moving average lingered at 5%.
Along with a higher seven-day positivity rate, the ISDH reported 603 new positive cases of COVID-19 — 597 of which were confirmed on Aug. 16 — and six new deaths which occurred between Aug. 12 and Aug. 16. The numbers bring Indiana totals to 81,006 cases and 2,926 deaths. The state also reported 7,829 new Hoosiers tested totaling 914,633 tested across the state.
In Monroe County, 65 more tests were reported which confirmed two more cases. The county totals increased to 804 positive cases and 18,789 residents tested. The death count remained the same at 33. Monroe county has a seven-day positivity rate of 3.2% — less than half that of the state.
Across Indiana, people ages 20-59 collectively account for 64.8% of positive cases and 5.2% of deaths.
