Coroner Releases Names Of Child, 2 Adults Who Died At Lake Monroe

Monroe County coroner Joanie Shields says the three people who died Saturday night when their car when under the water at Lake Monroe have been identified as 67-year-old Estella Huerta, 31-year-old Alejandro Hernandez-Huerta, and 4-year-old Alex Oliver Hernandez.

Shields said the preliminary cause of death for all three victims is consistent with drowning.

The family was from Lawrence, Indiana. Shields said it’s unclear why the family was at the lake and it is being investigated.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources witnesses reported seeing a vehicle slip into water late Saturday night at the Paynetown reservoir boat ramp.

The driver called for help and attempted to exit the vehicle, but according to the DNR, witnesses were unable to get the occupants out in time.
