The Indiana State Department of Health reported on Wednesday another midweek dip in COVID-19 numbers similar to last week. With only 5,983 newly reported individuals tested, Wednesday’s data include half the usual number of daily tests collected on a given day. More data will come later in the week that will likely increase this week’s numbers.
The ISDH reported 506 new positive cases — 501 which were confirmed on Aug. 18 — and 14 new deaths which occurred between Aug. 14 and Aug. 18. Eight of the 14 reported deaths occurred on Aug. 17, doubling Monday’s reported deaths to 16. Since August began, Indiana’s seven-day death average has gradually increased from nine to 12.
Today’s numbers increase the Indiana’s totals to 82,336 positive cases, 2,968 deaths and 934,033 Hoosiers tested with a 7.7% seven-day positivity rate.
In Monroe County, the state reported one new positive case and one new death bringing the county totals to 809 cases and 34 deaths. The county has tested 19,016 residents with a 2.8% seven-day positivity rate.
