State COVID-19 cases have spiked and another death has been reported in Monroe County, according to the Indiana State Department of Health’s Thursday numbers.
The ISDH reported 955 new positive cases — 949 were confirmed Aug. 19 — and 11 new deaths between Aug. 1 and Aug. 19. These numbers increased the state totals to 83,277 positive cases and 2,979 deaths. Preliminary data from this week indicate fewer daily cases statewide, but 949 cases confirmed Wednesday is the largest number of cases in a single day since Aug. 14.
The state reported another 11,613 Hoosiers tested, bringing the total to 945,471 tested with a 7.6% seven-day positivity rate.
In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 14 new positive cases and one new death, all confirmed Aug. 19. Since June 1, 20 Monroe County residents have died of COVID-19. The county reported another 226 individuals tested, bringing the totals to 19,240 residents tested, 822 positive cases and 35 deaths.
Monroe County currently has a 2.7% seven-day positivity rate.
