The mayor of Evansville says he questions Governor Mitch Daniels' commitment to construction of the I-69 highway extension linking his city with Indianapolis.
Mayor Jonathon Weinzapfel says the governor and Indiana Department of Transportation officials are probably commenting on I-69
now for one of two reasons. The first, he says, could be to build a foundation for an increase in the gas tax. Weinzapfel says he fears a request for public comments could be used to kill the project if not enough support for I-69 is generated.
