I-69 Opponents Denounce Statehouse Vandalism

Indiana State Police say participants are accused of spray-painting slogans on the capital building's walls. One woman faces charges of resisting arrest.

Sandra Tokarski is a longtime organizer with Citizens for Appropriate Rural Roads. She says having the anti-I-69 movement associated with those acts frustrates their efforts to work within the system.

Tokarski says she's frustrated by the disproportionate media attention on a few acts of vandalism over the movement's continual and legal opposition efforts. Members of the "Roadless Summer" group that sponsored the protest on Saturday have also publicly denounced the vandalism, saying the gathering was intended as a peaceful and legal demonstration.
