Since 2015, Indiana DNR has confirmed 3 black bears in the state.

A black bear has been sighted near Clark County, Ind., according to an Indiana Department of Natural Resources Facebook post. Confirmation was provided by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

In the post, DNR nongame mammalogist Brad Westrich said the sighting should not cause alarm, but residents should prepare in order to avoid negative interactions with the bear. The DNR urged citizens not to feed bears — intentionally or accidentally.

“Unfortunately, a fed bear often becomes a dead bear,” the DNR said in an online description of the sighting.
