Following up on his comments about racism within the Bloomington Police Department, BPD Chief Mike Diekhoff wrote in a Friday Facebook post that the department is working to fight implicit racial bias.
Diekhoff wrote that his comments at this week's city council meeting -- where he said he believed there was no systemic racism within BPD -- were based on his belief that his officers are not racist.

"That was based upon my interactions and observations of them at work," Diekhoff wrote. "All of us as individuals carry implicit bias, and being aware of that and working to be anti-racist are important efforts."
He added that BPD will continue to work on issues related to "equity and justice" and wrote that the department will "continue to be open about data."
