Indiana University released the first results today of on-campus COVID-19 testing, reporting about a 1 percent positivity rate among more than 33,000 students tested.
The new dashboard shows 344 positive tests out of 33,788 antigen (nasal swab) and saliva tests conducted Aug. 11-23.
The data also show a 16 percent positivity rate among symptomatic students.
Additionally, data show the university tested 288 symptomatic students and received 47 positive tests, resulting in a 16.32 percent positivity rate. The seven-day moving average has been steadily increasing since the last week of July, when symptomatic testing began.
IU professor of pediatrics Dr. Aaron Carroll is the university’s director of mitigation testing, which began this week and will appear on the dashboard Monday. Such testing shows where the virus might be spreading before people begin to show symptoms.
“We focused mostly on our highest-risk populations to start this week, since they hadn’t been tested since on-arrival,” Carroll said.
This week’s testing found higher numbers of positive cases concentrated in Greek houses.

Carroll said mitigation testing will expand next week to include faculty and staff.
