Indiana logged nearly 200 more cases of COVID-19 among residents in long-term care facilities this week.
That brings the total number past 7,000 cases. More than 1,800 facility residents have died from COVID-19. That accounts for nearly 60% of Indiana’s confirmed COVID-19 deaths.
The state dashboard has decreased resident cases and deaths in the past few weeks. That comes as the number of facilities reporting cases and deaths continues to climb.
State health officials attribute those declines on the dashboard to erroneous entries, information duplication, and other updates. Data is subject to change, they say.
While the number of new cases in facilities is appearing to slow, that’s no sign the pandemic is over. Around 20 residents living in long-term care facilities are infected with COVID-19 per day.
Health officials annouced today that the second round of testing of nursing home staff would end next week.
