The Monroe County Community School Corp. will move forward with its plan to send kids back to school on Tuesday.
The district’s metric committee met Monday morning to make the final decision despite the growing number of coronavirus cases in the area.
The district will enter the week in its Yellow Phase, which means elementary students will be attending school in-person five days a week, while middle and high schoolers will start off in hybrid learning.
Middle and high school students will alternate between online and in-person learning based on their last name. Students with last names A-K are in-person Monday/Wednesday and students L-Z attend in-person Tuesday/Thursday. The two groups will alternate Fridays each week.
The metrics that the district established for its Yellow Phase say the seven-day rolling average for positive COVID-19 cases must be between 6-9%. According to the latest data from the Indiana State Department of Health, Monroe County's rate is at 8.9% overall, and 15% for unique individuals.
All MCCSC families still have the option to keep their children in online learning if they don’t feel safe enough sending their children to school.

About 41.5% of elementary students will continue with online learning, while 28% of middle schoolers and 27% of high schoolers chose that path.
