Monroe and three other counties turned from yellow to orange Wednesday due to increased spread of COVID-19.
According to the Indiana State Department of Health, only one of Indiana’s 92 counties — Putnam County — remains yellow. Monroe County turned orange, which means the ISDH classifies the counties COVID-19 spread as “higher” or above moderate. The county documented 120 new positive cases and one new death, increasing Monroe County totals to 4,713 positive cases and 43 deaths.
Nearly 159,000 tests have been administered on 58,322 residents with a 6% seven-day positivity rate.

Across the state, the ISDH reported 6,143 new cases and 60 new deaths, bringing Indiana totals to 268,222 cases and 4,830 deaths. Some of today’s newly reported deaths occurred on Nov. 15. This increases Sunday’s death count to 52, making in Indiana’s deadliest COVID-19 day yet.
COVID-19 hospitalizations peaked at 3,040 — nearly double the number of Hoosiers hospitalized in April due to the virus. Patients sick with COVID-19 occupy 39% of ICU beds in Indiana, with 21.7% still available.
Indiana has administered 3.6 million tests on nearly 2 million individuals with a 12.2% seven-day positivity rate. Between Nov. 5 and Nov. 11, almost a quarter of Hoosiers being tested for the first time received a positive result.
