More than 3,000 Hoosiers are now hospitalized with COVID-19, according to data from the Indiana State Department of Health released yesterday. The department report 7,420 new cases and 59 new deaths.
The new numbers increased state totals to 275,503 positive cases and 4,889 deaths.
Indiana has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, deaths, positivity rates and hospitalizations that exceed numbers reported in April and May. Indiana’s deadliest COVID-19 days are Nov. 15 and Nov. 17, with 52 and 51 deaths, respectively.
Indiana has administered 3.7 million tests on about 30% of Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 12.1%. The state had a similar positivity rate in late April but was conducting nearly an eleventh of the number of tests it conducts now.
According to ISDH data, 39.3% of Indiana ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients, with 21.3% still available.
Monroe County documented 105 new COVID-19 cases one day after the ISDH moved the county to an orange classification. The county total rose to 4,817 positive cases, while the death toll remained at 43.
More than 161,000 tests have been administered on 58,793 Monroe County residents with a seven-day positivity rate of 6.4%
