Health experts are urging people to stay home next week for Thanksgiving because COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are spiking.

Dr. Tom Hrisomalos is an IU Health Southern Indiana Physician specializing in infectious disease. He says most viral spread occurs during small events between people who don’t live in the same household.
He says hospitalizations and positivity rates now exceed the rates of April and May.
"We really can’t let Thanksgiving turn what is already a crisis into a huge disaster.”
The State Department of Health reported Friday a 12.1 percent all-test positivity rate for Indiana.
Hrisomalos says traveling for upcoming holidays poses an extra risk of exposure because you are putting yourself close to people likely outside of your bubble.
