Indiana breached 300,000 positive cases Monday as local and state officials urge Hoosiers to avoid traveling this holiday season.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported 5,606 new positive cases and 27 deaths, which pushed state totals to 300,913 cases and 5,067 deaths. Nearly 18% of Indiana’s COVID-19 deaths have occurred in November as the state averages more deaths now than in the beginning of the pandemic.
Indiana has administered nearly 4 million tests on more than 2 million Hoosiers with a seven-day positivity rate of 11.6%.
According to ISDH data, 3,219 Hoosiers are hospitalized with COVID-19— the state’s greatest number of virus-related hospitalizations ever. COVID-19 patients occupy 42.4% of Indiana’s ICU beds, with 33.3% occupied by non-COVID-19 patients and 24.3% still available.
In Monroe County, the ISDH recorded 54 new cases and one new death — the county’s seventh COVID-19 death this month. These numbers increase Monroe County totals to 5,252 cases and 47 deaths. The county has administered 171,988 tests on 60,771 individuals with a 5.5% seven-day positivity rate.
