The fate of the 105-year-old Waldron building rests in the hands of the Waldron Recommendation Task Forced announced in a press release Tuesday.
According to the release from the mayor’s office, the circa-1915 building at 122 South Walnut Street will revert from Ivy Tech Community College to City of Bloomington ownership in January 2021. The 19-person task force, co-chaired by Miah Michaelsen and Valerie Peña, will meet in December to begin discussing immediate and short-term uses for the building.

“The Waldron has been an anchor of Bloomington’s downtown for over a century,” said Mayor John Hamilton in the release. “We look forward to working with a broad swath of residents to determine the best use for this property as we continue to foster our vibrant community.”
The release said the task force will consult downtown restaurateurs and merchants, tourism representatives, arts groups and more to determine the buildings future. The task force expects to release recommendations by April.
