Long COVID is a chronic condition in which symptoms last for over three months after a COVID-19 infection.

There were 5,700 new positive COVID-19 cases and 33 additional confirmed deaths, state health officials said Friday.

That brings the total case number in the state to 324,537 and the confirmed death toll to 5,328, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

The number of new positive cases is down more than 700 from Thursday’s reported new cases.

Monroe County's total COVID-19 case number rose by 76 to 5,504, and the county death toll stayed the same at 50. Data provided shows 61,789 Monroe County residents have been tested.

The ISDH says it has administered 4,148,596 tests across the state. That number includes tests run by the state, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and some private laboratories. The number of tests that have returned positive over the past week is 20.9%. The ISDH says the "number of tests is provisional and reflects only those reported to ISDH. Numbers should not be characterized as a comprehensive total."

As of Friday, 3,287 patients are hospitalized with the virus.

Friday's numbers show that 43.6% of the state's 2,171 existing intensive care unit (ICU) beds are currently being used by patients with COVID-19-related illnesses, while 23.2% are still available.

And as of noon Friday, 12% of the state's 2,805 total ventilators are being used by COVID-19 patients, while 71.6% are still available.
