Nearly a quarter of Monroe County’s COVID-19 deaths have occurred during November.
The county has one of the state’s fewest numbers of COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 residents, but with 12 virus-related deaths this month, November is Monroe County’s second deadliest month of the pandemic. June had 13 COVID-19 deaths.
The ISDH reported Monday 116 new positive cases and two new deaths, increasing county totals to 5,724 cases and 52 deaths. Everyone who has died from the virus in Monroe County was over the age of 50, despite that age group accounting for less than 20% of COVID-19 cases.
Monroe County’s COVID-19 numbers — especially tests administered and the county positivity rate — will likely change in the coming weeks to reflect the conclusion of Indiana University’s mitigation testing.
As of now, the county has administered 177,560 tests on 62,580 individuals with a 5.5% seven-day positivity rate.
The ISDH reported across the state 5,713 new positive cases and 38 new deaths, increasing the state totals to 338,977 cases and 5,456 deaths. More than 3,400 Hoosiers are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 — the most ever. According to state data, 44.7% of Indiana ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients with 24% still available.
Indiana has administered 4.2 million tests on 2.2 million individuals with a 10.8% seven-day positivity rate.
