After a year of financial and personal hardships, local nonprofits are looking to Giving Tuesday donations as a way to recoup some losses.
United Way of Monroe County Executive Director Efrat Feferman said it’s a day to focus on spending that can do some good – especially for local social service organizations.
“They’ve been dealing with canceled fundraisers over the last several months with the pandemic, while still having an increased demand for their services," she said.
United Way of Monroe County partners with and grants funding to 24 local member agencies, including Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Middle Way House and Indiana Legal Services.
Feferman said they’re focusing on fundraising for the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, which has raised and distributed $1.6 million to local organizations helping to mitigate the effects of the pandemic since March.
If you can’t give money, Feferman says, donations of goods and volunteer time is also a valuable way to give back to area nonprofits. A complete list of local organizations can be found at the Bloomington Volunteer Network’s website.
