The Indiana State Department of Health reported nearly 400 more COVID-19 deaths in November than in April — making it Indiana’s deadliest month of the pandemic yet.
As November turned to December, the ISDH reported Tuesday 5,518 new positive cases and a record-high 142 deaths that occurred between Oct. 27 and Nov. 30. These numbers increase Indiana totals to 344,373 positive cases and 5,598 deaths. Preliminary data shows more than 25% of Indiana’s COVID-19 deaths occurred in November.
The state also reported a record-high 3,460 Hoosiers hospitalized due to the virus, filling 45.7% of the state’s ICU beds. Just 24.2% of ICU beds remain available.

Indiana has administered more than 4.2 million tests on 2.2 million individuals with an 11% seven-day positivity rate.
In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 101 new positive cases and one new death, increasing the county totals to 5,826 cases and 53 deaths. Today’s newly reported death, which occurred on Nov. 30, ties November and June as Monroe County’s deadliest COVID-19 months with 13 deaths in each.
The county has administered 179,205 tests with a 6.4% seven-day positivity rate.
District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Jackson, Lawrence, Orange, and Washington County, has 145 residents hospitalized, and COVID-19 patients occupy more than 40% of District 8 ICU beds, with 44.7% still available.
