The City of Bloomington on Thursday announced the 35th positive COVID-19 case among city employees since the beginning of the pandemic.
The most recent case is a City of Bloomington Utilities worker who began quarantining after experiencing symptoms Nov. 30 and received a positive test result Dec. 2.
In the month of November alone, 16 city employees tested positive for the virus. This included workers from CBU, the Bloomington Police Department, the Parks & Recreation Department, the Public Works Department, Bloomington Transit and City Hall.
Sixteen cases were reported among city workers between March and November.
This increase is in line with rising coronavirus numbers across the state and in Monroe County; the seven-day moving positivity rate in Monroe County has steadily increased from less than 2% in late September to 8.1% as of Dec. 3.
City spokesperson Yael Ksander said this week that city departments are implementing steps to mitigate the spread of the virus, including temperature checks and encouraging employees to self-monitor for symptoms.
