Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett says he was in quarantine while recovering from COVID-19 a month ago. He says he developed symptoms after his wife went to the doctor and tested positive for COVID-19.
“When I lost my sense of taste and smell, they’re like, you don’t need to take the test, you clearly have it,” Bennett said.
He says his wife did not have COVID symptoms and was being treated for another issue.
“It was a surprise, as many people I’ve been around, I thought I’d get it sooner than this or be exposed to it, but apparently I may have gotten it from my wife.”
Bennett says he was ill four days experiencing mild symptoms, but no breathing issues. He was able to work from home while recuperating. He says he’s fine and came back to the office a few weeks ago.

He says about 30 police and fire personnel were also off due to quarantine or positive COVID tests, but the numbers have improved to just a few.
Vigo County is reporting 68 new positive cases and 3 deaths with an improving 7-day all test positivity rate of 10.4 percent. The state is reporting a 14 percent rate.
