The Indiana State Department of Health reported Thursday 6,604 new cases of COVID-19 and 96 deaths due to the virus, increasing state totals to 404,935 cases and 6,302 deaths. The state is now averaging more than 60 deaths a day and has experienced three days in December with 70 or more deaths. According to ISDH data, 3,221 Hoosiers are hospitalized because of the virus and occupying 43.6% of ICU beds. Only 20.5% of beds remain available.
Indiana has administered 4.7 million tests on 2.3 million individuals with a seven-day positivity rate of 13.9%.

In Monroe County, the ISDH reported 63 new cases and three new deaths, totaling 6,649 cases and 65 deaths countywide. The county has experienced 13 COVID-19 deaths so far in December, tying the June and November records of 13 deaths in one month.
Monroe County has administered 66,864 tests with an 8.2% seven-day positivity rate.
District 8 — which includes Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Lawrence, Jackson, Orange and Washington counties — has 159 residents hospitalized and 33.7% of ICU beds occupied. Fifty-one percent of the district’s ICU beds remain available.
