The City of Bloomington announced Saturday that an employee of its public works department received a positive COVID-19 test result.
The employee is the first within the department’s fleet division to test positive, the city said in a statement. It said the employee experienced symptoms a week ago and went on paid leave Monday. There were no reported close contacts with other employees.
The city said it was the 43rd positive COVID-19 reported by a city employee.
“The City of Bloomington is committed to sharing information about how its operations and workforce are affected by this public health emergency, and will continue to provide updates about confirmed cases among staff while protecting employees’ privacy,” it said.
News of the employee’s test comes as virus-related deaths and positive COVID-19 test results continue to rise in Monroe County.
On Saturday, Indiana’s Department of Health reported three more county deaths and 130 new cases, bringing the death toll to 68 and total positive count to 6,866.
The department reported that 67,582 Monroe County residents had been tested.
