IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis is administering its first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The hospital received the first shipments of the vaccine Wednesday morning.
Dr. Steve Roumpf, the medical director for emergency medicine at the hospital, was among the first to get the vaccine.
“I got invited to be a little part of history. It’s spectacular. There’s no other way to describe it. I feel privileged and blessed and this is the light at the end of a very long tunnel.”
Methodist was one of five hospitals in Indiana designated to get the initial round of nearly 56,000 doses of the vaccine. Parkview Health in Fort Wayne administered the first vaccines in the state on Monday.
IU Health Bloomington is expected to receive doses of the vaccine Friday.
Frontline health care workers at risk of exposure to COVID-19 and long-term care facility workers and residents are first in line to receive the vaccine.
