A local organization is providing a hotel room to anyone in Bloomington who needs a place to sleep on Christmas Eve.
Katie Norris started Hotels for Homeless in March, when it became clear the pandemic would mean serious economic consequences for many people. The donation- and grant-funded organization temporarily places people experiencing homelessness in hotels until they can find more permanent housing.
She was driving by the tent encampments in Seminary Park recently when she thought about the biblical story of Christmas.
“So I thought, wouldn’t it be really nice if nobody in our city had to sleep outside for one night? And wouldn’t it be nice if that night was Christmas Eve?”
Hotels for Homeless is partnering with Best Value Inn and Quality Inn to provide the rooms on Christmas Eve. Guests will also receive a Christmas dinner, stockings and hygiene kits.
