Indiana Senate Democrats are calling on Hoosiers to continue wearing masks and social distancing, despite the expiration of the statewide mask mandate and other COVID-19 restrictions.
During a Tuesday Zoom press conference, Sen. Shelli Yoder (D-Bloomington) echoed federal and state health officials’ concerns: that relaxed restrictions could lead to another surge in cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
“We are at a critical turning point, where our state will either stay the course and the number of COVID cases will go down, or we will head towards another lockdown," she said.

Sen. Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis) encouraged Hoosiers to continue wearing masks, even though the state’s guidance has been downgraded from a mandate to an advisory.
“The burden of enforcement will now shift to our frontline workers and local businesses, and those local health departments who believe that enforcement is still necessary," she said.
Senate Democrats’ plea for continued vigilance against the spread of the virus comes as many Americans are deciding whether to get vaccinated.
