Monroe County
Monroe County confirmed 29 new COVID-19 cases Friday, up from 25 on Thursday and topping 28 on Wednesday–for the most this week.
No new deaths were reported, keeping the total to 197. The first confirmed death since Sept. 29 was reported earlier this week.
The county has been in the yellow advisory for more than two weeks, after a month of being in the higher-spread orange category. Its 7-day positivity rate was up to 4.5 percent Friday, and the week started at 3.8 percent. The county has confirmed 15,117 cases since the pandemic began.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties. Hospitalizations remained steady this week–reporting 99 on Friday and 100 on Thursday.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 were down to 114 from 144 last week.
The Monroe County Community School Corporation reported seven COVID-19 cases Thursday, four of which were not from a building.
Indiana
The state recorded 2,303 new COVID-19 cases Friday, down from Thursday’s 2,644.
The Indiana Department of Health confirmed 19 COVID-19 deaths Friday, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 15,713. The state has reported 996,341 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
The state recorded 1,599 Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID-19 on Friday and 1,634 on Thursday. Thursday was the first day hospitalizations went below 1,700 since Aug. 18, and Friday was the first time hospitalizations have gone below 1,600 since Aug. 16.
The state’s 7-day positivity was 9 percent, which was the same as Thursday.
Other Counties
In Brown County, six new cases were recorded Friday, and the total since the pandemic began was 1,440. That’s up 56 new confirmed cases since last Friday.
No new deaths were confirmed in Brown County this week, keeping the total to 47. No deaths were confirmed last week either.
The 7-day positivity rate was 7 percent Friday, down from 7.7 percent Oct. 8.
The county was in the yellow ranking on the state map, indicating lower levels of COVID-19 than its previous orange. The county’s COVID-19 rate per 100,000 wasdown to 86, a drop from 185 last week.
In Vigo County, 50 new COVID-19 cases were recorded Friday. The total since the pandemic began rose to 17,274, which means 252 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed since last Friday.
The 7-day positivity rate was 9.1 percent, and it was 9.1 percent Oct. 8.
No new deaths were recorded Friday in the county, and the total since the pandemic began was 300, which is five more than last week.
Hospitalizations in District 7, which includes Vigo County, decreased to 60 this Friday from 77 last Friday, Oct. 8. Friday was the lowest hospitalizations have been in the county since Aug. 7.
Vigo County was ranked orange on the county map, indicating a higher level of transmission in the area. Weekly cases per 100,000 residents were at 264. That’s down from last week’s 321.
Lawrence County confirmed 11 new positive cases Friday. The total since the pandemic began was 7,379. That’s up 86 cases from last Friday.

No new deaths were confirmed in the county Friday. The total number of deaths since the pandemic began for the county was 168. That’s an increase from 166 last week.
