Bloomington police are investigating a shooting early Sunday at the Marathon gas station at 601 E. 10 th Street.
According to a BPD press release, officers responded to a weapons complaint around 2:15 a.m. The store clerk told officers he had been battered and one suspect shot at him while running away from the store. Two suspects fled in a sport utility vehicle before officers arrived, and two others fled on foot.
The clerk said he was attempting to close the store when four people entered and refused to leave.
“One of the females involved reportedly opened a bag of potato chips and began eating them inside the store without paying for them,” the release said. “Another female involved then reportedly grabbed several bags of chips and ran from the store and got inside the sport utility vehicle with the stolen merchandise.”
The store clerk said he chased two women out of the store. As he attempted to open the car door, the vehicle drove off, leaving two males behind.
The clerk said one suspect kicked him in the back and the other suspect hit him in the head with a handgun. That suspect then turned toward the clerk and fired one shot.
A Monroe County Sheriff deputy found the occupied vehicle near the Speedway gas station in the 3000 block of East Third Street. Officers found a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun with an extended magazine under a seat.
All four individuals were arrested and taken to the Monroe County Jail.
