Monroe County
Monroe County confirmed 23 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, up from 16 Wednesday.
No new deaths were confirmed, and the total remains 199.
The county has been in the yellow advisory for three weeks. Its seven-day positivity rate is 4.4 percent Thursday, the same as Wednesday but up from 4.3 percent Tuesday. The county has confirmed 15,242 cases since the pandemic began.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 71 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, down from 80 Wednesday. The last time hospitalizations were lower was Aug. 12.
Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are down to 111 from 114 last week and 144 two weeks ago.
The Monroe County Community School Corp. Reported five cases Wednesday and 13 Tuesday.
Indiana
The state recorded 2,161 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 2,023 Wednesday.
The Indiana Department of Health confirmed 26 COVID-19 deaths Thursday, bringing the total to 15,909. The state has reported 1,005,797 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
The state recorded 1,445 Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID-19 Thursday and 1,475 Wednesday, which was the first time state hospitalizations have gone below 1,500 since Aug. 15.
The state’s seven-day positivity Thursday is 8.5 percent, down from 8.6 percent Wednesday.
Breakthrough Cases
Breakthrough cases are COVID-19 infections that happen in fully vaccinated people. The state updates this dashboard every Thursday.
So far, of the 3,346,653 fully vaccinated people in Indiana, 52,484 breakthrough cases have been recorded. That’s up from last week’s 48,676. Three weeks ago, 44,479 breakthrough cases had been confirmed. On Sept. 9, the state had confirmed 22,666 breakthrough cases.
The state has registered 1,097 breakthrough hospitalizations. Breakthrough deaths are now up to 531, an increase of 46. Numbers of breakthrough deaths being confirmed had decreased for the last three weeks.
Of the breakthrough deaths, 89 percent were 65 or older.
In Monroe County, the percent of vaccinated individuals age 12 and up has risen to nearly 61 percent. The rate at which unvaccinated people are getting infected in the county is 7,477 per 100,000 unvaccinated residents, up from 7,317 last week.
