A short-lived swell in temperatures is expected through the weekend. Daytime highs are forecasted to be in the upper 50s today, the low 60s tomorrow, and peaking in the low 70s Sunday before leveling out in the 60s by Monday. Lows will sink into the low 40s tonight, and then increase between the low and upper 50s through the next week.
Off-and-on showers are returning this week with a 50 percent chance beginning tomorrow night before becoming likely throughout all of Sunday and Monday. Rain will clear out briefly by Monday night. Tuesday is expected to be partly sunny through the afternoon before showers and potential thunderstorms return that evening and are expected to linger through at least Thursday.
Up to three inches of rain is possible in the northwest region of Indiana, and up to two inches possible in south-central Indiana in the next seven days.
With only a week left in October, it’s that time of year for below-freezing temperatures to begin settling in here in south-central Indiana. Typically, in the greater Bloomington region, we experience our first fall freeze in the second to third week of October. With the current above-average temperatures, we may not see these freezes, or cold spells, until November. According to NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s winter outlook for 2021, which spans from December to February, they predict a higher than normal chance for warmer temperatures through the winter in the Midwest, and even more so closer to the Old South.
