Four COVID-19 deaths confirmed in Monroe County

Monroe County        

Monroe County confirmed 26 new COVID-19 cases Friday and 35 Thursday.

The state dashboard added four new deaths to the county’s total, bringing it to 209.

The county has been in the yellow advisory for two months. Its seven-day positivity rate is down to 4.4 percent from 4.9 percent Thursday. The county has confirmed 15,809 cases since the pandemic began.

In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, 52 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, down from 55 Thursday.

Monroe County’s weekly cases per 100,000 are down to 113 from last week’s increase, which had the county at 121. 

The Monroe County Community School Corp. reported four COVID-19 cases Thursday, all of which came from an MCCSC building. The other four are not connected to a classroom or office. Twenty-three cases total were reported this week at MCCSC.

Indiana             

The state recorded 2,807 new COVID-19 cases Friday, down from 2,940 Thursday. The state has reported 1,049,575 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.    

The Indiana Department of Health confirmed 71 COVID-19 deaths Friday, and the total since the pandemic began is 16,518.

The state recorded 1,327 hospitalizations Friday, up from 1,298 Thursday.    

The state’s seven-day positivity rate is 8.2 percent Friday, the same as Thursday.

Other Counties

In Brown County, thirteen new cases were recorded Friday, and the total since the pandemic began is 1,531. That’s an increase of 76 new confirmed cases since last Friday.

No new deaths were confirmed in Brown County this week, keeping the total to 49.

The 7-day positivity rate was 15.4 percent Friday, up from 11.4 percent last Friday.

The county was in the orange ranking on the state map, indicating higher levels of COVID-19. The county’s COVID-19 rate per 100,000 is 212, the same as last week.

In Vigo County, 19 new COVID-19 cases were recorded Friday. The total since the pandemic began is 18,178. That means 311 cases were recorded this week.

The 7-day positivity rate was 8.8 percent, up from 7.6 percent last Friday.

No new deaths were recorded Friday in the county, and the total since the pandemic began was 307.

Hospitalizations in District 7, which includes Vigo County, are at 37 Friday, up from 32 last Friday.

Vigo County was ranked yellow on the county map, indicating a lower level of transmission in the area than last week when it was in the orange category. Weekly cases per 100,000 residents were at 198, up from 177.

Lawrence County confirmed 11 new positive cases Friday. The total since the pandemic began is 7,705.

The county’s 7-day positivity rate was 7.4 percent Friday, up from 5.9 percent last Friday.

No new deaths were confirmed in the county Friday. The total number of deaths in Lawrence County since the pandemic began is 180. That’s an increase from 178 last week.
