The Santa Claus, Indiana postmark is available at the Santa Claus Post Office from Dec. 1 until Dec. 24.
The special postmark has been offered every Christmas season since 1983, Spencer County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Melissa Arnold said. People from all over the country and some from other countries send their mail to get the Santa Claus postmark.
“I would say it receives at least 400,000 pieces of mail, which is more than this Santa Claus, Indiana post office receives the rest of the year combined,” Arnold said.
A postmark is an official marking that says when a post office received a piece of mail. It also ensures a stamp cannot be reused.
High school students submit designs as part of an annual contest. This year’s artist is Lily Vane, now a freshman at Aurora University pursuing a graphic design degree.
More can be read about the Santa Claus postmark on the city’s website.
