The new IU Health Bloomington Hospital received its first transferred patient Sunday morning from its old downtown location.
The Monroe County Alert system sent out a notice that the hospital is now open.
The move from the downtown location is scheduled to be completed Sunday evening, and ambulances could be seen traversing between the two hospitals, transporting patients.

IU Health officials said that during the week leading up to the move, the largest activity would be cleaning all surfaces to make sure the facility was sterile for operations. They added that teams have been practicing using equipment and stocking the facility, which necessitates thorough cleaning.
The first baby was born at the new hospital this morning at 11:15 a.m., according to an announcement from IU Health Bloomington.

The City of Bloomington has purchased the old hospital site and plans to develop it into greenways, housing, and other uses in the neighborhood.
IU Health is responsible for demolition of the main building, and that’s set to begin spring 2022.
